Access to Local Funds

The residents of East Walcot are fortunate in that they have access to funds from two non-council sources, that is the Community Shop in Sussex Square and from the end of the year, the Peoples Fund at Stepping Forward in Cavendish Square.

Both funds are there to give small amounts of money to local residents when they are needing short term financial help.  The funds are not to pay household bills but are there to help with many other calls that may be made for financial assistance.

If you think you need help then just come into the Community Shop and ask, your request will be handled confidentialy and discreetly.

At this time funds cannot be accessed from the Peoples Fund at Stepping Forward, these funds will be available from the beginning of next year (2008).

Cllr Peter Mallinson said, " All the residents have access to the funds and I am sure that they will be used in the future for the benefit of local people.  I work in the Community Shop on a Friday and Saturday and know how important it is to the local people to have such a facility.  Since it's refit, it is a clean, modern environment both to work in and to shop in.  Not only does it provide a service to local people but it provides funds for local people from that service.  In this it is unique in Swindon."
